Having trouble identifying a typeface?

http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

In a few quick steps, What the Font will tell you what typeface you are looking at (even if its withing a .jpg or other picture file).

Free application that does what Fontbook should do.

http://www.integrity.com/homes/tomandkaren/FontDoc/

Its called FontDoc. It is a simple viewer that allows you to view custom text in all the types in your library. Each is labled and the page is printable. I'm a huge fan.

Rubber Soul Identity

I interpret Rubber Soul as a play on flexibility and the Beatles loving hippy community. Which is certainly more in line with bare feet. We should try ideas that reflect the origin of the name, but we should also create solutions that don't force the issue and simply reinforce the simple expansion of self awareness that yoga provides.

Now, we need to determine a timeline. Do you like how I avoided calling it a deadline? Well, too damn bad. Its a deadline. Is it reasonable to ask for ten distinct ideas in one week's time? I think its a good goal at least. You guys?

Here is a link to something interesting. I'd like to hear each of your initial reactions.

Identity

Would a graphic of a shoe sole be good, or would it look like a shoe store logo? Maybe something that relates more directly to yoga would be better, like a person doing yoga. It should have an uplifting sort of feeling. Maybe a shoe sole graphic could be made out of some sort of simple symbol that relates to yoga. If it had the right feeling it might work.

Wait, I thought that you didn't wear shoes when you did yoga.... Why "rubber soul"???? If using a shoe graphic would be counterintuitive, what sort of graphic would relate to the name and also make sense? I guess yoga mats are rubber, but a yoga mat might make a pretty boring graphic. I dunno.

I'm just rambling to get ideas going. Thoughts?

Ready and Will ing

I say Rubber Soul Yoga is a good project to start on. Unless there are objections, let's talk about where to begin. Identity? Concepts? Also, someone give me a scanner.

Hey everyone,
So the job market here in NYC is non-existent... so I've been picking up a slew of freelance projects to pay the bills. My current projects include.

1. identity, stationery, website for Atlas Extermination
2. The Way of Wa Shun Ru (karate) book
3. Two Little Red Hens packaging and website
4. a Dog in a Sweater (custom dog wear) identity, stationery, website
5. an onsite 2 month/part time gig with www.myorangebox.com a rad little studio in Soho..

with that said... I'm building a new flash website (currently teaching myself..blah)... and I wanted to see how serious everyone was about this little group... cause I'd love to have a collective website and I'd be more than happy to start working under a shared name as well... it seems way more legit and I'd be happy to put forth the work to have it launch...

any name ideas? I heard something about Prefab Collective (love it)

and hayley, any help you want on the rubber soul stuff.. let me know.. i'm really excited about it.

Rubber Soul...Continued

Here's a photo of one of the theater productions that took place at Rubber Soul's studio. The caption, "The Forest Theatre of Pure Form performs The Importance of Being Nest Ear. (butler, Gwendolen [standing in back], Algernon, Cecily.) "

Here's my experience at Rubber Soul ::

Rubber soul is a yoga studio right across the street from the weathered train tracks of athens, georgia. as I live just down the road, the sound of the train that passes by reminds me of my college days of practicing different forms of yoga at rubber soul. this practice influenced my mind; it encouraged me to practice instinctive breathing :: to stretch my spirituality and connect with my body’s flexibile, childish nature.

The yoga studio on pulaski st. survives on donations by its yogis, enough to sustain the studio space and keep doors open. As yoga students, new and experienced, young and old, filter through the glass entrance and place their shoes in neatly prescribed cubby holes, they enter a portal where the time and place of others is displaced by internal reflection and a devotion to self awareness.

Those who attend classes engage in a variety of activities; although most of the classes at rubber soul are practiced forms of yoga, other options include an Athens Zen Group, Pilates, Swing Dancing, and a Monday evening Laugh Club.

Yoga at rubber soul is a recommended lifestyle. Its suggested daily practice is complemented by other behaviors that are described as organic and good. These include (but are not limited to) the non-violent concepts of Fair Trade, Organic, Fair Labor, Renewable Energy, Vegan, Recycled, Tree-Free, Car-Free, Cruelty-Free, and Buy Local.

Anyways, I loved the photo of the theater show...I'm thinking about all the directions we could take this guys...THINK ABOUT IT!

Mucho Love and Tchao for now!

Link and Project Ideas

Hi Ladies & Will,

Here's a link to rubber soul yoga ::

http://www.rubbersoulyoga.com/

I am posting a list of possible projects I thought we might want to take a stab at for the studio. For those of you who don't know, I talked to Cal (studio owner) and he said he would be willing to work with and enlighten us about yoga, sustainability practices, etc. He seemed to enjoy the idea of observing our project process.

:: identity system (which could encompass business cards, stationary, or just a logomark)
:: information graphic detailing the progression of poses from beginner to advanced Yogi
:: in-studio wall graphic
:: yoga mat design/patterns
:: monthly schedules
:: chart of exemplary behaviors
:: info graphic explaining the health benefits of yoga
:: brochure detailing the lifestyles of the studio instructors
:: pamphlet or other format explaining the classes offered
:: typographic solution to convey the spiritual side of yoga, meaning of specific chants...could be in an interesting format_calligraphy? etc)
:: guestbook
:: interesting donation box
:: design piece explaining the nonviolent principles listed on the website
:: website design

if you guys think of anything else, post it! We could make the logo just rubber soul yoga or rubber soul yoga revolution...just another thing to think about!

Namaste,

Hayley
